Shailene Diann Woodley, 22, is an American actress. Woodley was born on November 15, 1991 in Simi Valley, California. Her parents both are in education. Shailene's mother Lori is a middle school counselor and her father Lonnie is a principal. Unfortunately, the Woodley parents separated when Shailene was 15. Woodley has a younger brother Tanner who appeared in one TV show in 2006. Woodley is 5'8" weighing in at 119lbs. Woodley is a multiracial female with brown hair and green eyes (Healthy Celeb, 2013).

Woodley graduated from Simi Valley High School. As a freshmen she was teased - being called "anorexic" and would often go home crying. Also, during freshmen year, Woodley was diagnosed with Scoliosis and wore a chest to hip brace until her spine straightened out. She was required to wear it eighteen hours a day. Her first job was a sales associate at American Apparel which she held throughout her junior year.

By the time Woodley was a senior, she landed the lead role as Amy Juergens in The Secret Life of the American Teenager in which she played a teen mother role. In order to graduate high school while filming, once a week one of her teachers would bring her homework to the set and she would do between scenes. The Secret Life of the American Teenager was aired from 2008-20013. The Secret Life of the American Teenager was Woodley's first role in a popular series. The Secret Life won 31 awards in total; including Teen Choice — Best Summer TV Show. Woodley herself took home the Young Artist Award — Best Performance in a TV Series. By the end of this show, she believed she was compromising her own integrity by promoting things to teenagers she doesn't believe in.

In high school, Woodley didn't advertise she was an actress to her friends. Students would often ask; "were you on My Name Is Earl lastnight?" She felt like she lived a double life.

She took all AP classes while participating in the choir. The "popular" students labeled her as "geekey."

The Secret Life was not Woodley's first acting role. She began modeling at the age of 4. She has been on the set of 17 TV shows including Without A Trace, The OC, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, Cold Case, CSI: NY, and Top Chef: Duels.

Woodley has been in seven films. In 2011, she played the rebellious daughter in The Descendants (2011). She won many awards for her role in The Descendants: "Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female, the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress, and breakthrough awards such as the Trophée Chopard and the MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance can be counted among her successes. She received dozens of other award nominations, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture and nomination by numerous film critic groups".

Woodley landed the lead role as Beatris, or better known as "Tris" Prior in the Divergent series in 2014, which landed her four Teen Choice awards including Best Action, Best adventure, Best Thriller, and Favorite Character. Woodley felt connected to this character specifically because Tris is trying to find out who she really is; a struggle Woodley faces right now as an actress.

Also in 2014, she landed another lead role as Hazel Grace Lancaster in The Fault In Our Stars. This heart-melting film won eight awards total, including Teen Award — Best Drama. Woodley was recognized individually receiving Breakthrough Actress and Teen Awards: Liplock and Chemistry with co-star Ansel Elgort. Woodley enjoyed this set, but decided it was her last teen movie and now wants to pursue more mature characters.

Woodley missed-out on the lead role in I am Sam (2002), stating it was "the only job I didn't get that made me sad." She lost this role to Dakota Fanning. She also filmed for The Amazing Spiderman 2 (2014), but her scenes were cut. Woodley was equally disappointed when she lost the lead role in Katniss Everdeen to Jennifer Lawrence, whom many compare Woodly to today based on Woodley's performance in Divergent (2014).

Woodley is unique; a true Hollywood role model. She made a promise to her mom prior going to Hollywood that she would stay true to herself and she did. Woodley considers herself an environmental activist. She only buys used clothes, shops from local farmer markets, and prefers her bare natural face without makeup. When she wears makeup, she makes it herself from natural ingredients including clay. She also makes all of her own products including lotions and toothpaste. She even collects her own water. Her natural ways make her feel in touch with nature and herself.

Woodley stays out of Hollywood drama; in fact, she doesn't even own a cell phone. She is a feminist and believes in equality. Something that bothers her is female celebrities going back and forth with drama. Woodley believes in women empowering each other, not belittling each other.

Woodley stated that once acting became a career, she would quit. She does it because she fell into it by accident at a young age and fell in love with the art of being on a set.
